Dhaka, Dec 02 (V7N) — At least 13 people have died and 20 others have been injured after a boat capsized in Peru’s Amazon region following a sudden landslide. Local health authorities confirmed on Monday (November 30) that two more people remain missing, as reported by German media outlet Deutsche Welle.

However, Peru’s national news agency later reported that 28 people are still missing, highlighting confusion over the exact number of casualties. The deadly accident occurred at the Port of Iparra, located about 415 kilometers northeast of Lima, the country’s capital.

The landslide struck two boats heading toward a riverside town. One vessel sank completely, while the other was severely damaged. Indigenous communities living along the riverbanks immediately joined the rescue effort, rushing to help survivors.

Navy Captain Jonathan Novoa told AFP that rescue operations on the river continue, but searching for the missing remains extremely challenging due to the debris and strong currents.

Authorities have deployed police and navy helicopters to assist in the large-scale rescue mission as hopes fade for finding more survivors.
