Nonthaburi, Aug 12 (V7N)- A solemn atmosphere prevailed at the funeral of 12-year-old Naphat Chaimer, who was among those killed in last week's school shooting in Thailand.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at Wat Lat Pla Duk temple in Nonthaburi province, north of Bangkok, on Monday (August 10) to pay their final respects to the young student.

Among those present were Naphat's parents, relatives, teachers, classmates, guardians, government representatives and members of the local community.

In an emotional moment, the father of the teenage attacker approached Naphat's parents and apologized for his son's actions. He expressed his remorse as the grieving family prepared to say goodbye to their daughter.

Naphat was the youngest student killed in the attack at Devsirin Nonthaburi School. She had joined the school only three months earlier and was studying in seventh grade.

Her father recalled Naphat as an energetic and creative child who enjoyed extracurricular activities. She had recently taken part in dance and traditional costume competitions and was preparing to participate in a cheerleading event later this month.

The family learned that Naphat had been critically injured after repeatedly trying to contact her following the attack. She later died in hospital after several days of treatment.

According to local authorities, the 14-year-old suspect was also responsible for the deaths of family members before the school attack. The incident left several other people injured and shocked communities across Thailand.

The attack has prompted widespread mourning across the country. King Maha Vajiralongkorn, Queen Suthida, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and other senior officials expressed condolences to the families of those killed and injured.

Royal wreaths were placed beside Naphat's coffin at the temple. The palace also announced that the families of the victims and injured would receive assistance under royal patronage.

Naphat's funeral drew such a large crowd that many mourners had to remain outside the temple. Photographs documenting different stages of her childhood and school life were displayed at the venue.

Her father said he would remember his daughter for her enthusiasm, creativity and dreams. He also said he did not want to blame the school for what happened, stressing that such tragedies can occur anywhere.
