Kampala, October 23 (V7N) — At least 63 people were killed and several others injured when two buses collided head-on on a highway in western Uganda at midnight on Wednesday, according to a report by Anadolu Agency.

The deadly crash occurred near the town of Kiryandonga, reportedly due to reckless overtaking. Road accidents are frequent in the area because of narrow highways and excessive speeding, though such a high death toll is unusual, officials said.

Uganda Red Cross spokesperson Irene Nakasita described the aftermath as “terrible,” saying many of the injured were found “lying in pools of blood with broken arms and legs.”

Ugandan police stated on social media platform X that some of the victims were rescued unconscious, and there is a possibility that some were mistakenly listed among the dead during the initial rescue efforts.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
