Ramallah, Jul 19 (V7N)- Palestinian teenage footballer Fadi Hamdallah al-Nasan has died after being shot in the occupied West Bank, according to reports cited by Al Jazeera on Sunday (July 19).
Family members said the 17-year-old was shot on July 11 during an incident involving Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. Al-Nasan, who represented the Palestinian national youth football team and played for Al-Mughayyir Club, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday (July 18).
His death has drawn renewed attention to the ongoing violence and tensions in the West Bank, where clashes involving Israeli settlers, security forces, and Palestinians have continued amid the broader regional conflict.
The West Bank has been under Israeli occupation since 1967. International organizations, including the United Nations and several human rights groups, have repeatedly expressed concern over settlement expansion and the humanitarian situation in the territory.
On Saturday, dozens of mourners gathered at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah before accompanying al-Nasan's body to his hometown of Al-Mughayyir for burial. Many participants wore black and paid tribute to the young footballer during the funeral procession.
According to a statement published by the Palestine Football Association (PFA) on X, al-Nasan's death raises the number of Palestinian sports figures killed since October 2023 to 1,130. The association said that 568 of those were members of the Palestinian football community.
Speaking to local media, Fadi's father, Hamdallah al-Nasan, said his son had rushed toward the area after hearing cries from women and girls during the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting continue to draw international attention as concerns grow over escalating violence in the occupied West Bank.
