Chattogram, Jul 13 (V7N) — Torrential rainfall and flash floods triggered by upstream water have caused widespread devastation across Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and the three hill districts, with the death toll in Chattogram Division rising to more than 50, according to local authorities.

Large parts of low-lying areas in Chakaria, Pekua, Matamuhuri and several other upazilas of Cox's Bazar remain submerged, leaving hundreds of thousands of people stranded. Many remote communities are facing acute shortages of food and safe drinking water.

Although the administration has distributed relief supplies, affected residents say the assistance is inadequate compared with the scale of the disaster.

In Bandarban, conditions have shown slight improvement after heavy rainfall stopped on Sunday afternoon. Floodwaters have begun to recede from parts of the district as water levels in the Sangu, Matamuhuri and Bankkhali rivers continue to fall.

However, in the past 24 hours, three people, including elderly residents and children, drowned in floodwaters, while one person remains missing.

Despite improving weather conditions, many flood-hit communities in Bandarban continue to face severe shortages of food and clean water. The collapse of road communications has left many residents isolated, while the district administration, Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are continuing relief operations in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the flood and landslide situation in Rangamati remains critical. Road communication with several areas is still disrupted, and although floodwaters have started to recede in parts of Farua, Baghaichhari and Bilaichhari, many localities remain underwater.

Affected residents in Rangamati are struggling with shortages of food, drinking water and relief supplies. The Army and BGB are transporting essential food, clean water and humanitarian assistance to remote communities by boat.

Authorities said three people have died and one person remains missing in Rangamati since the disaster began, while rescue and relief efforts continue across the district.
