Dhaka, Jul 19 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that many hopes and aspirations associated with the 1971 Liberation War and the July Movement remain unfulfilled, but efforts are continuing to rebuild the state and implement the July Charter.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting organized by the National Editors Council in Dhaka on Sunday (July 19) afternoon.
Mirza Fakhrul said the prolonged struggle to restore democracy over the past 15 to 16 years, along with the sacrifices of students and citizens, created a new vision and hope for the country.
“The hopes and aspirations of the people have not been completely destroyed. We must make proper use of the opportunity that has been created to build a new state,” he said.
Referring to ongoing political debates over the July Charter, the BNP leader alleged that some issues agreed upon in the signed document were being ignored or presented differently.
He urged all concerned parties to join discussions with the Constitution Amendment Committee to resolve disagreements.
Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that political differences should be addressed through dialogue and discussion rather than confrontation.
