Washington, Jul 12 (V7N) — The United States has launched a third round of military strikes against Iran following an attack by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the Cyprus-flagged container vessel MV GFS Galaxy in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by Iran International citing the U.S. Central Command.
The reported strikes came amid escalating tensions in the Gulf after the commercial vessel was allegedly targeted while transiting one of the world's busiest international shipping routes.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press, citing U.S. officials on Saturday, reported that President Donald Trump has given American negotiators a limited window to reach an agreement with Iran. According to the officials, the U.S. president has also prepared multiple military and diplomatic options should negotiations fail.
In Tehran, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said in a message on Saturday that avenging the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a U.S. airstrike on February 28, has become a national demand. He said the call for retaliation "must be fulfilled."
President Trump also renewed his warning to Tehran, saying that 1,000 U.S. missiles are currently aimed at Iran, with thousands more ready for immediate deployment. He warned that any attempt by Iran to assassinate him would trigger an overwhelming military response.
The latest developments have further heightened tensions in the Middle East, raising concerns over regional stability and the security of international maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz.
