Central Texas, July 8 (V7N) — Rescue teams in central Texas continued their efforts on Monday, July 8, searching through storm-ravaged areas for survivors as the death toll from last week’s catastrophic flooding increased to at least 104. Heavy rainfall persisted, further impacting the already devastated regions.
According to the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office, as of 2 p.m. Central Time, the confirmed death count in the county reached 84, including 56 adults and 28 children. The identification process is still pending for an additional 22 adults and 10 children.
Kerr County was the hardest hit area, where the Guadalupe River surged rapidly after intense rain on July 4. In just a few hours, the river’s water level rose over 20 feet at multiple points as it flowed downstream toward Kerrville, a city with approximately 24,000 residents.
The flooding overwhelmed the region, causing widespread damage, displacing thousands, and leaving emergency teams struggling to manage rescue and recovery operations. Authorities continue to warn residents to stay alert as more heavy rains are forecasted.
Efforts are ongoing to provide relief to affected communities, restore essential services, and support families who have lost loved ones in this devastating natural disaster.
