DHAKA, May 25 (V7N) — Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced that it will remove all sacrificial animal waste within eight hours on Eid day, deploying more than 13,000 personnel and over 2,100 vehicles across the city.
DSCC Administrator, heroic freedom fighter Md. Abdus Salam, said the main operation will begin at noon on May 28, with the goal of clearing the first day’s waste by evening. He urged residents not to dump waste into drains or sewers, warning that such actions could spread disease and cause severe waterlogging if rain occurs.
To meet the target, DSCC has cancelled Eid leave for waste management staff. Public Relations Officer Md. Rashel Rahman confirmed that extensive preparations have been made to transfer and dispose of waste at the Matuail Sanitary Landfill.
According to DSCC, a total of 33,942 tonnes of waste is expected over three days. Of this, 15,935 tonnes will be removed on the first day, 11,776 tonnes on the second, and 6,231 tonnes on the third. Special cleaning operations will also be conducted at 11 temporary cattle markets, with phased removal of bamboo poles, pens, litter and other debris.
This year, an estimated 174,406 animals will be sacrificed in the south city area. Around 140,000 biodegradable bags, 46 tonnes of bleaching powder, and 210 gallons of Savlon will be distributed to assist residents in maintaining hygiene.
The waste removal fleet includes compactors, dump trucks, container carriers, pay-loaders, excavators, bulldozers, water trucks, and skid loaders, alongside 1,700 smaller vehicles deployed across 75 wards.
Operations will be monitored live from a central control room at Nagar Bhaban, with separate control rooms at each cattle market. Executive magistrates will oversee law and order, while medical teams will provide animal health services. Two portable mechanic teams will remain on standby for emergency repairs.
To ensure smooth communication, DSCC has activated two hotline numbers — 01709900888 and 02223386014 — for citizen complaints regarding waste removal. Officials have promised swift resolution of issues during the three-day operation.
A supervisory panel of senior DSCC officials has been formed to oversee cattle markets, waste management, and related Eid operations. Abdus Salam emphasized that maximum preparations have been taken to ensure a clean, hygienic, and well-managed Eid-ul-Azha for Dhaka residents.
