Khagrachhari, May 23 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Army has recovered weapons and ammunition following an armed clash between rival groups in the Baburapara and Korlyachhari Government Primary School areas under Logang Union of Panchhari upazila in Khagrachhari district of the Chattogram Hill Tracts.
The incident occurred on Thursday when armed members of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF–Main) and the JSS (Main) exchanged gunfire over alleged territorial dominance in the area.
Following reports of the clash, an army patrol team from Khagrachhari zone quickly reached the scene and launched an operation to bring the situation under control.
During the operation, the armed group members reportedly opened fire on the army patrol team. The army personnel responded with defensive fire, after which the attackers fled the scene.
After the area was secured, the army conducted a search operation and recovered one China-made rifle, 274 rounds of ammunition, two FCCs, and other military-related items.
Authorities confirmed that no army personnel were injured in the incident, and the overall situation in the area is now under control.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Khademul Islam, PSC, the Zone Commander of Khagrachhari, said that no space would be allowed for extortionists or armed criminals in the region under the zone’s responsibility.
He added that such operations would continue in the future to ensure the safety and security of local residents.
The Army also stated that it is committed to ensuring the protection of all ethnic communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and maintaining a strict stance against armed criminal activities.
