DHAKA, May 25, (V7N)— Prime Minister’s Adviser and Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, Mahdi Amin, said today that the government has set a rare example of humane and people-oriented politics in its first 100 days in office.
Speaking at a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, he recalled the long struggle since the July 2024 uprising and emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Bangladesh has overcome a deep crisis and ensured empowerment of the people.
He noted that the government, elected by popular mandate, has already returned looted state property to the people and strengthened democratic institutions. Visible steps taken by the Prime Minister have changed the fate of citizens, he said.
Mahdi Amin highlighted that from the very first day, priority-based election promises were set into motion. Ministries were instructed to prepare 180-day action plans, covering social security, agriculture, education, health, employment, economy, technology and infrastructure.
Among the initiatives, the Family Card programme was launched to strengthen women-centric social security. Honorariums for imams, muazzins and khatibs have begun, while the extra monthly charge for prepaid electricity meters was withdrawn. Agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 for small farmers were waived, and the Farmer Card was introduced to digitize agricultural management.
He pointed to the nationwide canal digging programme and the Padma Barrage Project as transformative steps for agriculture, irrigation and water management. In addition, maternity leave has been extended, measles vaccine coverage has reached nearly 100 percent of children, and preparations are underway to allocate 5 percent of GDP to health in phases.
The spokesperson also mentioned swift justice initiatives, citing the conviction of a child rapist within 29 working days and the government’s commitment to ensuring justice in the murder of child Ramisa. He stressed that the Prime Minister is personally reaching out to victims, listening to their grievances and standing by them.
Economic reforms include seizure of immovable assets worth Tk 4,264 crore from S Alam Group, agreements to repatriate laundered money, record remittance inflows of US$ 3.75 billion last month, and plans to launch an Expatriate Card. Freelancers are being provided state identity cards, and a Tk 60,000 crore fund has been announced to reopen closed factories and create jobs.
Mahdi Amin concluded by saying that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman does not present himself as a distant figure of power, but as a representative of the people. He extended advance Eid-ul-Azha greetings and reaffirmed the government’s vision to build Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.
