Galati, May 29 (V7N) – A drone struck a residential building in Romania’s eastern city of Galati on Friday (May 29), raising fresh concerns over regional security near the Ukrainian border.
According to international news agency Reuters, the drone hit a ten-story apartment building in the city, triggering a fire after the explosion. Two people were reportedly injured in the incident.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene and safely evacuated around 70 residents from the building. Firefighters worked for several hours before bringing the blaze under control.
However, authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding the origin of the drone or how it entered the area.
Galati is located close to Romania’s border with Ukraine, where the ongoing war has heightened security concerns across neighboring countries. The latest incident has intensified fears over the possible spillover effects of the conflict in the region.
