Dhaka, May 24 (V7N) – A chargesheet may be submitted to the court today in the rape and murder case of seven-year-old Ramisa in the capital’s Pallabi area, as the investigation process has nearly reached its final stage following the receipt of DNA, autopsy and viscera reports.

Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department handed over the DNA report of the child victim to the investigation officer.

Speaking at a workshop in Mohakhali on Saturday, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that if the chargesheet is filed before Eid-ul-Azha, the judicial process can begin immediately after the holiday.

The minister said the government is closely monitoring not only Ramisa’s case but also other rape-related incidents across the country.

Police recovered Ramisa’s body from a house in Pallabi on Tuesday morning, triggering widespread outrage nationwide.

The main accused in the case, Zakir Hossain alias Sohel Rana, was arrested from Narayanganj on May 20. Later, he gave a confessional statement in court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid recorded the statement and ordered the accused to be sent to jail.
