MOSCOW, May 29, (V7N) – A Ukrainian drone attack on a chemical factory in southern Russia killed one person and seriously injured another, regional authorities said on Friday.

Volgograd region governor Andrey Bocharov said a 60-year-old man died at a synthetic fibre manufacturing company in Volzhsky following what he described as “a drone attack by the Kyiv regime.”

A 55-year-old woman was also seriously wounded in the strike and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The attack triggered fires at the factory and several nearby sites, although authorities later confirmed that all fires had been extinguished.

Russia’s defence ministry said its air defence systems intercepted 208 Ukrainian drones overnight.

Ukraine has increasingly launched strikes inside Russian territory since the war began in 2022, saying it is targeting energy and industrial facilities in an effort to weaken Russia’s economy and reduce oil revenues.
