Kushtia, Nov 22 (V7N) – Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia celebrated its 47th founding anniversary on Saturday with a series of festive programmes, including a rally, cake-cutting ceremony, release of balloons and doves, floral tributes, and a commemorative discussion session. The celebration brought together teachers, students, officials, staff and representatives of various campus organisations.
The day’s events began at 11:00 a.m. on the central football field with the national anthem, followed by the hoisting of the national and university flags. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah inaugurated the celebration by raising the national flag, while Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M. Yeaqub Ali hoisted the university flag. A cake-cutting ceremony and the symbolic release of balloons and pigeons followed.
Shortly afterward, a colourful rally led by the Vice-Chancellor paraded through different campus roads. Participants from all departments and residence halls joined with banners representing their respective units. The rally ended at the university’s foundation stone, where floral wreaths were placed in remembrance of the institution’s establishment.
A special prayer was offered for the university’s founder, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. A discussion meeting was later held at the Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium, presided over by Day Celebration Committee Convener Professor Dr Alinoor Rahman.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah attended as chief guest and highlighted the significance of the day, noting that Islamic University—established in 1979—was the first public university founded after Bangladesh’s independence. Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M. Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Professor Dr Jahangir Alam, and leaders from various teachers’ and employees’ associations also delivered remarks.
Representatives from the student organisation JCD, the teachers’ body UTAB, and the Zia Parishad placed floral tributes at the foundation stone. Teachers, officers, employees, students, and campus-based organisations participated actively throughout the day.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to all members of the university community, including journalists from print and electronic media, for their contributions to the institution's progress. He said Islamic University aims to emerge as a model institution in education, safety and environmental standards in the coming years.
