Sylhet, Aug. 11 (V7N) — The pass rate in this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations in the Sylhet Education Board has fallen to 58.33 per cent, while 3,836 students have achieved the highest GPA-5 grade.
The results were formally announced at 10am on Monday at the conference room of the Sylhet Education Board by Professor Bilkis Yasmin, the board's Controller of Examinations.
A total of 89,421 students from 973 educational institutions under the board appeared for the SSC examinations this year, of whom 51,957 passed, according to board officials.
Female students outperformed their male counterparts in both the pass rate and the number of GPA-5 achievers, officials said.
The pass rate declined by 10.24 percentage points from last year, when 68.57 per cent of students passed. However, the number of GPA-5 recipients increased by 222 this year from 3,614 in the previous year.
Nine educational institutions under the Sylhet Education Board achieved a 100 per cent pass rate this year.
Of the total candidates, 53,891 were female students and 35,530 were male students. The number of candidates was 12,798 lower than last year's figure.
Among the four districts under the Sylhet Education Board, Sunamganj recorded the highest pass rate, while Moulvibazar had the highest number of GPA-5 achievers.
In Sylhet district, 35,331 students appeared for the examination, including 14,321 boys and 21,010 girls. A total of 94 examination centres were arranged for students from 367 educational institutions.
Moulvibazar had 19,913 candidates, comprising 7,631 boys and 12,282 girls. Students from 198 educational institutions took the examinations at 37 centres.
In Sunamganj, 18,383 students appeared, including 7,515 boys and 10,868 girls. They took the examinations at 45 centres serving 234 educational institutions.
A total of 15,794 students appeared in Habiganj, including 6,063 boys and 9,731 girls. Students from 174 educational institutions sat for the examinations at 49 centres.
The Sylhet Education Board recorded a pass rate of 68.57 per cent in the 2025 SSC examinations, compared with 73.35 per cent in 2024.
The number of GPA-5 achievers also fell in 2025 compared with 2024. A total of 3,614 students secured GPA-5 in 2025, compared with 5,471 in 2024.
In 2025, 102,219 students appeared for the SSC examinations under the Sylhet Education Board. Of them, 70,091 passed and 32,128 failed, representing a failure rate of 31.43 per cent.
The results this year show a significant decline in the overall pass rate despite a modest increase in the number of students securing GPA-5.
