Dhaka, Aug 10 (V7N) – Prime Minister's Education Adviser Dr Mahdi Amin has said this year's SSC and equivalent examination results were prepared through a fully impartial assessment of students' actual merit and skills, abandoning the practice of artificially inflating pass rates and GPA-5 achievers under the previous regime.
"The practice of artificially increasing pass rates and GPA-5 achievers during the previous fascist government has been completely abandoned by the current elected democratic government, ensuring an impartial assessment that reflects students' actual merit," Dr Mahdi Amin told a press conference at the Ministry of Education today while announcing the SSC and equivalent examination results.
Highlighting transparency and accountability in education, the Education Adviser said the SSC and equivalent examinations began on April 21, just two months after the formation of the current democratic government, and authorities ensured fair and transparent examinations nationwide using a single question paper.
"CCTV cameras and body-worn cameras were used at examination centres to ensure transparency during the examinations. We also ensured complete impartiality and objectivity in the assessment of answer scripts through subsequent training of teachers," he said.
"Regardless of whether the results are good or bad, we must remember that they reflect the students' actual merit," he added, urging students who could not achieve their desired grades not to be disappointed.
Dr Mahdi Amin acknowledged that transforming a broken state structure overnight is difficult, but assured that the government is working with utmost sincerity. "The democratic government is committed to building an education system that will make students self-reliant and create employment opportunities," he said.
He noted that the education sector was the most adversely affected during the previous fascist regime.
Outlining the government's education reform initiatives, he said the curriculum has been revised, expanded and streamlined for the next academic year. Additionally, sports programmes, startup competitions and tree-planting initiatives have been introduced in educational institutions nationwide to ensure a sustainable and equitable education system.
Teachers' training and facilities, the integration of sports and culture, and the proper use of technology in education are also being prioritized to improve overall quality, he added.
The Education Adviser expressed gratitude to teachers, guardians, examinees, education administrators, law enforcement agencies and all concerned for ensuring the smooth completion of the examinations.
