Aug 13 (V7N) —A festive atmosphere has swept through Thakurgaon, the home district of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, following the news of his nomination as the BNP presidential candidate.
Distribution of sweets in every nook and cranny of the district, victory processions and crowds of joyous people at the party office and his ancestral home at Kali Bari have created an unprecedented environment here.
The BNP has nominated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the party's candidate for the 23rd Presidential election of Bangladesh. His name was finalized today after a high-level meeting of the party.
As news of his nomination spread, sweet distribution, exchange of greetings, and celebrations began among leaders and activists in Thakurgaon. People from the district are also posting congratulatory messages on social media.
People in Thakurgaon expect that Mirza Fakhrul Islam will play a role in strengthening the country's democratic institutions and will also uphold the aspirations of the people of his home district.
Local leaders and activists said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who began his career as a teacher, rose step by step through politics to the pinnacle of national politics. His nomination for the presidency as recognition of his political sacrifices and dedication, they said.
Professor Abu Bakar Siddique, former Principal of Thakurgaon Government Women's College and a distinguished educationist, said, "Mirza Fakhrul is the greatest face of this neglected region in all time, and he has made us all proud. He deserved this."
Dr ABM Khairul Kabir, President of Thakurgaon BMA, said, "This success belongs not only to Thakurgaon but to the entire northern region. We ourselves are drenching ourselves in boundless salutations. I pray for his long and healthy life."
Thakurgaon District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin said, "My family is overwhelmed by this occasion. We are expressing our immense gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Fakhrul has received recognition for his lifelong sacrifices and integrity; this is an honor for our district and our country."
