Cox’s Bazar, July 6 (V7N) – In a significant anti-drug operation, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have recovered 1 lakh pice yaba tablets and arrested two suspected drug traffickers from the Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The arrestees were identified as Md. Monir, 32, son of Badsha Mia from Ward 7 of Chhoto Habib Para in Ukhiya, and Manjur Alam, 28, son of Rashid Ahmed from Ward 8, Madarbunia village of the same upazila.
Assistant Police Superintendent A. M. Faruk, media officer of RAB-15, confirmed the incident. He stated that based on secret intelligence, RAB learned of a large consignment of yaba pills being prepared for transport by drug dealers in the Madarbunia area of Jaliapalong Union.
Acting on the tip-off, a joint team from RAB-15's CPC-2 (Whykong Camp) and CPC-1 (Teknaf Camp) conducted a special raid on the morning of Sunday, July 6. During the operation, they successfully seized 1 lakh pice yaba pills along with a smartphone, a button phone, and arrested the two accused traffickers.
RAB officials said that both detainees and the recovered evidence have been handed over to Ukhiya Police Station for further legal action. Authorities stated that efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the region are ongoing as part of their continued intelligence-based anti-narcotics operations.
Yaba—a methamphetamine-based stimulant combining meth and caffeine—is one of the most widely trafficked illegal drugs in Bangladesh, often smuggled in from neighboring countries through the border regions of Cox’s Bazar.
