Barguna, Dec 28 (V7N) – Every morning at Talatala intersection in Patharghata Upazila, an extraordinary scene unfolds as thousands of mynah birds gather outside Abdul Haque’s shop at dawn. By around 6:00 am, 8,000 to 10,000 birds perch on tree branches and electric poles, chirping as if calling out to him, “Abdul Haque, where are you?”
Since 2007, Abdul Haque has been using his own earnings to provide food for these birds daily. He shares whatever is available—sometimes wheat, rice, lentils, bread, or other leftovers. On some days, he even makes bread from several kilograms of flour specifically for the mynahs. His motivation is not financial gain, but love for nature and personal satisfaction.
Local residents note that if Abdul Haque is unable to feed the birds on any given day, the birds gather in front of his shop, chirping and searching for him. Observers say that the birds recognize him, and that people like Abdul Haque, with such compassion, are rare in the present era. The number of birds has steadily increased over the years, attracting nature enthusiasts from far and wide.
Mynah birds are highly beneficial for the environment, locals say. They feed on insects in the fields, helping farmers reduce pesticide use, and play a key role in maintaining ecological balance.
Abbas, a local resident, recalled that during the long period Abdul Haque was away due to illness, the birds behaved restlessly, making it clear how deeply they were connected to him. Such examples of human kindness, he noted, are exceedingly rare today.
Abdul Haque said, “Since 2007, I have been feeding 8,000 to 10,000 mynah birds daily from my own resources. They are like family to me. Even if I am not here, I hope someone continues to provide for them.”
Dr. Arbind Das, Patharghata Upazila Livestock Officer, praised Abdul Haque’s efforts, saying, “I am truly amazed by his initiative. Providing regular food for the birds from personal resources is highly commendable. In the future, if the government allocates funds for feeding birds, we will assist him so that he can continue this noble work.”
