Dhaka, Aug 03 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in several parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.

The forecast, valid until 6:00 pm on Monday (August 3), was issued by meteorologist Md. Hafizur Rahman on behalf of the Deputy Director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

According to the BMD, the southwest monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh and is in a moderate state over the North Bay of Bengal.

The weather office said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at some places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chattogram divisions through Monday evening. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet.

The department said day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged across the country during this period.

In its 24-hour outlook, covering the period from 6:00 pm Monday to 6:00 pm Tuesday, the BMD forecast continued light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds over many areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at some places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chattogram divisions. Moderate to heavy, and in some areas very heavy, rainfall may occur in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the Meteorological Department said rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected at many places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in parts of the country, while both daytime and nighttime temperatures may decrease slightly.
