Dhaka, Nov 28 (V7N) – A deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coast of Sri Lanka has intensified into Cyclone ‘Detwah,’ according to Special Bulletin-3 issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Thursday, November 27.

Meteorologist Md. Tariful Newaz Kabir stated in the bulletin that the system has moved north-northwest, reaching 6.8°N latitude and 81.8°E longitude, and developed into a cyclonic storm.

As of 12:00 PM on November 27, Cyclone Detwah was located approximately 2,040 km southwest of Chattogram Sea Port, 1,980 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar, 1,940 km southwest of Mongla, and 1,935 km southwest of Payra. The cyclone is expected to continue moving north-northwest.

Winds near the cyclone’s center are reaching a sustained speed of 62 km/h, with gusts of up to 88 km/h. The seas surrounding the storm are extremely rough.

Authorities have advised Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra sea ports to lower the No. 1 warning signal and raise a No. 2 distant warning signal. Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal are prohibited from venturing into deep sea until further notice.
