New York, Sept 27 (V7N) – Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, urging global action to prevent illicit financial flows, combat climate change, and address unemployment.

“In spite of deep crises or seemingly impossible challenges, the path to renewal is never lost,” Yunus said, reflecting on Bangladesh’s recent popular uprising and the country’s ongoing transformation. He highlighted the “extraordinary power of ordinary people” as a driving force behind positive change.

Yunus criticized the global financial system for failing to prevent the transfer of resources from developing countries to tax havens, calling on nations and institutions that shelter stolen assets to return the wealth to its rightful owners — farmers, workers, and ordinary taxpayers. He proposed implementing strong international regulations to prevent resource plundering and ensure repatriation of stolen assets.

On climate change, Yunus emphasized the need for intensified global cooperation, calling for stronger mitigation and adaptation strategies. He also warned that rising global trade protectionism threatens development and increases the risk of conflict, stressing the importance of economic interdependence.

Highlighting the role of youth, Yunus outlined three goals for the future: zero carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration, and zero unemployment, urging all nations to embrace the “three-zero world” as a shared vision.
