Dhaka, Sept 23 (V7N) – Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow at the death of fire service worker Shamim Ahmed (42), who succumbed to burns sustained in the devastating fire at a chemical warehouse in Tongi, Gazipur.
In a condolence message on Tuesday, Dr. Yunus prayed for the eternal peace of Shamim Ahmed’s soul and conveyed heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family. He also wished a swift recovery for the four injured fire service personnel and a local youth who remain hospitalized.
“The sacrifice made by our firefighters—risking their own lives to save others—sets an example for the nation. Their courage and dedication will always be remembered with gratitude,” the Chief Advisor said.
Shamim Ahmed, who suffered 100% burns while battling the blaze at the Sahara Market chemical factory in Tongi on Monday, had been undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery before his passing.
The injured currently under treatment are: Senior Station Officer Shahin Alam, Warehouse Inspector Khandaker Jannatul Naeem (35), Firefighters Nurul Huda (40) and Joy Hasan (24), and local shopkeeper Al-Amin Babu (22).
