Rangamati, Aug 24 (V7N) – A fatal road accident occurred in Rangamati town around 12:15 PM on Sunday, when 38-year-old Khorshedul Alam Jony was critically injured after being crushed between a cargo truck and an auto-rickshaw near the old bus station, in front of a local petrol pump.

Eyewitnesses reported that Jony, a resident of Tabalchhari, had left his home on a motorcycle to pick up his child from school. As he attempted to cross the busy area, his motorcycle (Registration No. Rangamati-LA-11-11-36) became trapped between a truck and a three-wheeler, leaving him severely injured. The motorcycle was reportedly mangled in the impact.

Local bystanders rushed to rescue him and took him to Rangamati General Hospital, where his condition rapidly deteriorated. He was being transferred to a hospital in Chattogram for advanced treatment, but he passed away en route.

Jony was the only son of Haji Zahir Ahmed Saudagar, a respected businessman and senior BNP leader in Rangamati. He was the father of two children and well-regarded in the local community.

The news of his sudden death has sparked widespread mourning in the area. Advocate Dipen Dewan, Assistant Secretary for Religious Affairs of the BNP’s National Executive Committee, expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

In a condolence message, Dewan said, “The untimely death of Khorshedul Alam Jony is a devastating loss. The pain and grief his father, Zahir Ahmed Saudagar, and his family are enduring is beyond words. I pray for eternal peace of the departed soul and extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”

As of now, local authorities have not confirmed whether any legal action has been taken against the drivers involved. The tragic accident highlights ongoing concerns over road safety in the busy intersections of Rangamati town.
