Dhaka, Nov 26 (V7N) – Ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has taken steps to resolve internal conflicts in several constituencies. The party decided to reconsider nominations in constituencies where candidates face serious allegations or where loyal and qualified members were overlooked. The party also plans to finalize its election manifesto as part of full-scale election preparations. These decisions were made during a Standing Committee meeting on Monday night, presided over virtually by Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from London.
Sources said that following the initial announcement of 237 candidates on November 3, clashes occurred in over fifty constituencies, resulting in injuries and fatalities, causing embarrassment to the party. Leaders recommended that controversial candidates be replaced with dedicated and capable members to reduce internal disputes. Several nominations had gone to elderly leaders who require assistance for mobility, prompting discussions on possible replacements. BNP leaders emphasized that the current era of generational change demands adaptation, and failure to do so could lead to disruptions in many constituencies.
The meeting also reviewed the election manifesto, discussing key focus areas for campaign messaging. The manifesto will incorporate BNP’s 31-point agenda, emphasizing free and fair elections under a non-partisan government, independent election commission, protection of human rights, freedom of speech, transparent administration, and revival of the national economy. In line with the July National Charter, the party also plans to advocate for full independence and neutrality of state institutions, including the Election Commission, Human Rights Commission, and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Tarique Rahman’s Guidance Shapes Party Strategy
Through video messages, virtual discussions, and social media, Tarique Rahman has consistently highlighted the importance of democracy, human rights, and state reforms, stressing the revival of democratic governance and citizen empowerment. Party sources confirmed that these principles will be reflected in the manifesto, which will be officially unveiled through a major event after the final announcement.
