Dhaka, Aug 9 (V7N) - The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has collected two nomination papers for the upcoming presidential election.
BNP Vice Chairman and Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi collected the papers from the Returning Officer's office at the Election Building in Agargaon this afternoon. Chief Whip Moni confirmed the matter to BSS.
The Election Commission announced the election schedule on Thursday, setting August 13 as the deadline for nomination paper submission and August 20 for voting. Nomination papers can be submitted from 10am to 4pm on August 13. Scrutiny will be conducted on August 16, with withdrawals allowed until 4pm on August 18. Voting will take place at the Jatiya Sangsad session hall from 2pm to 5pm on August 20.
EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the Chief Election Commissioner finalized the schedule in consultation with the Jatiya Sangsad Speaker in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Presidential Election Act, 1991. He added that the voter list for the election has already been prepared.
