Dhaka, Nov 12 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has urged the government to take a strong stance against terrorism, saying it is the duty of law enforcement agencies to identify and stop those responsible for recent violent incidents.

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury made the remarks following a meeting between BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and European Union (EU) Ambassador Michael Miller at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office on Wednesday morning (November 12).

Amir Khasru said that there is no doubt regarding the February elections, adding that the EU Ambassador had inquired about the BNP’s election preparations during the meeting.

“The responsibility lies with law enforcement agencies to determine who is involved in terrorist activities,” he said. “The government must take a firm position on this issue. The Awami League is not in the election race, nor are they active in the country — therefore, anyone could attempt to carry out terrorist acts.”

He emphasized that the people of Bangladesh are alert and that terrorism cannot derail the electoral process.

“The European Union has no concerns about the upcoming elections,” Amir Khasru added. “They want free, fair, and impartial polls in Bangladesh, and they are actively engaged in supporting that process.”
