Darwin, August 13 (V7N)- Bangladesh bowled out hosts Australia for just 198 runs in the first innings of the opening Test, with pacer Hasan Mahmud producing a record-breaking six-wicket haul.
On a pace-friendly pitch in Darwin, Bangladesh's fast bowlers dominated from the beginning. Australia reached 109 for four at the end of the second session but could not withstand the relentless Bangladeshi pace attack.
Hasan completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Australia's top scorer Steve Smith for 71 in the 51st over. He then claimed the final Australian wicket to finish with six wickets.
The performance also saw Hasan create a unique record among Bangladeshi pacers. He has now taken five or more wickets three times in Test matches played abroad.
Ibadat Hossain broke the 55-run partnership between Smith and Alex Carey in the second session, while Taskin Ahmed dismissed Beau Webster. Hasan then removed captain Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc in quick succession.
Earlier, Bangladesh's pacers had taken four Australian wickets in just 62 balls during the first session, from 11.4 to 22 overs.
Australia were eventually all out for 198, with every wicket falling to a Bangladeshi pacer. Hasan Mahmud claimed six wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Ibadat Hossain took two wickets apiece.
