Dhaka, Oct 12 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed that the ongoing movement in the name of the Proportional Representation (PR) method is being used as a tactic to delay the upcoming national elections, saying that the people of Bangladesh will not accept anything imposed on them.

He made the remarks while speaking at a memorial meeting held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Sunday (October 12) morning.

Mirza Fakhrul reaffirmed that the national elections will be held as scheduled, noting that the coming days pose “tough tests” for all political actors. He emphasized that peaceful elections would allow the people to choose tested and competent leadership for the nation’s future.

The BNP leader also urged social media users to verify information before believing or sharing it, warning against misinformation campaigns.

Highlighting the BNP’s stance on political reforms, Mirza Fakhrul said that most of the proposals made by the Reform Commission are already included in the BNP’s 31-point manifesto. He encouraged other political parties to reach out to the public by incorporating any differing views into their own manifestos.
