Teknaf, Aug. 13 (V7N) — Two motorcycle riders were killed after a dumper truck hit their motorcycle in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred in the Keruntali area of Hoayikyang Union, according to police.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Rubel, 35, son of Chhagir Ahmed of West Farirbil area in Palongkhali Union of Ukhiya, and Mohammad Arman Chowdhury, 28, son of Abul Kashem of Gilatali area in Hoayikyang Union of Teknaf.

According to local residents, the dumper truck struck the motorcycle while it was travelling through the Keruntali area. Rubel, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

Arman Chowdhury, who was riding pillion, was also seriously injured. Local residents rescued him and took him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where he later died while undergoing treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Nayapara Highway Police Station Nurul Absar confirmed the deaths.

Teknaf Model Police Station OC Mohammad Saiful Islam said the bodies were recovered with the help of local residents and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsies.

Following the accident, police took the dumper truck and motorcycle into custody. Legal proceedings are underway, police said.

The deaths have cast a pall of grief over the families and local communities of the two victims.
