Bagerhat, Aug 07 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Friday criticized the government's handling of law and order, alleging that ongoing political violence and rising prices of essential commodities have made life increasingly difficult for ordinary people.
Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with local media professionals in Bagerhat on Friday (August 7), the Jamaat chief claimed the government had failed to maintain public security and restore normalcy.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said incidents of political killings and violence, coupled with the increasing cost of daily necessities, had placed significant hardship on the general public.
Commenting on the country's power situation, he alleged that many consumers are not receiving an adequate electricity supply despite facing high monthly utility bills.
He added that the ultimate judgment on the performance of the current government would be made by the people through their assessment of its overall governance.
Addressing the issue of press freedom, the Jamaat Ameer said the media in Bangladesh has never enjoyed complete independence and argued that journalists should be allowed to report freely and objectively without restrictions.
The remarks were made during an interaction with local journalists in Bagerhat. There was no immediate response from the government to the allegations at the time of reporting.
