Dhaka, July 21, (V7N) – BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused the interim government of evolving into a political entity, raising concerns over its role and actions in the current political landscape.
Rizvi made the remarks on Monday morning while paying tribute to the late President Ziaur Rahman at his grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. He was accompanied by BNP leaders, activists, and party members from the UAE chapter.
Criticizing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration, Rizvi said, “Bangladesh has turned into a prison built by Sheikh Hasina. The whole country has become a mirror where one cannot hide. Those who launder money walk freely, and murderers are honored, provided they carry the Awami League’s seal.”
He added that democracy remains fragile under the interim arrangement and questioned the uncertainty surrounding future elections. “We demand a Bangladesh free of Sheikh Hasina’s misrule—where democratic norms will be upheld, political parties will speak and organize freely, and thuggery will have no place.”
Addressing the National Consensus Party (NCP), which emerged from the student-led movement, Rizvi remarked, “Some parties supported our democratic movement, including our student brothers who later formed the NCP. While they were once like our younger brothers, forming a political party and accepting advisory and ministerial roles before justice for the martyrs was served raises valid questions.”
He stressed that while forming a political party is within their rights, the timing of the decision and the lack of closure for those who lost their lives during the movement is troubling.
Rizvi also criticized the interim government’s handling of national affairs, stating, “The country is witnessing a sharp deterioration in law and order, worsening economic conditions, and soaring taxes—reaching up to 50 percent. These problems will only escalate without a government formed through free and fair elections.”
