Dhaka, July 17 (V7N) – Bobby Hajjaj, Chairman of the National Democratic Movement (NDM), has blamed the government’s inaction for the ongoing unrest in the country and alleged that “Awami fascists” are intentionally trying to create chaos to retain defeated power.
Speaking at an emergency press conference held at the National Press Club on Thursday morning, Hajjaj said the law and order situation has deteriorated significantly due to a lack of reform within law enforcement agencies.
He also criticized the National Citizens Party (NCP), suggesting that some recent incidents occurred due to what he termed the party’s "immaturity."
“The audacity shown by Awami terrorists is a direct result of government failure. You can’t build a new Bangladesh while keeping ghosts in the mustard,” he said, referencing a Bangla proverb implying hidden dangers within.
Hajjaj alleged that terrorists are roaming freely in Gopalganj with police support, and despite publicly brandishing weapons, no arrests have been made. He expressed grave concern over the apparent impunity enjoyed by these groups.
To restore public trust, the NDM chairman called for an immediate combing operation across the region and proposed the deployment of retired, honest police officers if necessary to ensure neutrality and accountability.
He also urged the government to announce the date of the next national election before the start of Ramadan, asserting that timely elections are crucial for restoring stability and public confidence.
The remarks come amid escalating political tensions across the country, especially following clashes in Gopalganj during the NCP's 'March to Build the Country' movement.
