Cox’s Bazar, Oct 8 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has conducted a series of extensive anti-smuggling and anti-drug operations in various areas of Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, recovering illegal drugs and contraband goods worth more than Tk 28 crore during the month of September.
According to BGB sources, the most significant seizure during the operations was yaba tablets. A total of 939,103 yaba pills were recovered, with an estimated market value of Tk 28.17 crore.
In addition to the narcotics, BGB also confiscated other smuggled items including one round of ammunition, eight mobile phones, 38 sacks of fertilizer, one fishing net, one trawler, one easy bike, and one motorcycle. The total value of these seized items has been estimated at Tk 14.58 lakh.
BGB confirmed that a total of 25 cases have been filed in connection with the operations. So far, 12 suspects have been arrested, 10 remain fugitives, and legal actions are underway against 24 unidentified individuals.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jashim Uddin, psc, Commanding Officer of the 64 Ukhiya Battalion, stated that BGB remains committed to ensuring national security through strong surveillance and professionalism.
He said, “In September alone, we have been able to seize drugs and smuggled items worth over Tk 28 crore, which clearly reflects our dedication and operational success. We will continue our drives to protect the youth from the deadly grip of narcotics and to maintain peace and order in the border areas.”
Officials said that the regular intelligence operations and continuous vigilance by the Ukhiya Battalion have played an effective role in reducing cross-border smuggling and drug trafficking. The ongoing drives have significantly contributed to curbing illegal activities and strengthening border security in the region.
