Barguna, Aug 10 (V7N) — Bangladesh is working to ensure that the benefits of development reach people in every region and to reduce longstanding disparities across the country, BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Selima Rahman said on Sunday.

She made the remarks while addressing an exchange of views with district-level government officials at the conference room of the Barguna Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Rahman said ensuring equal access to development opportunities for people across the country was a major priority. She called for closer coordination between public administration and political leaders to build a more prosperous and equitable Bangladesh.

She also stressed the need to make administrative activities more efficient and responsive to meet public expectations.

During the meeting, Barguna District Council Administrator Nazrul Islam Molla highlighted several development challenges facing the district and issues affecting areas considered comparatively disadvantaged.

Barguna District BNP Member Secretary S.M. Humayun Hasan Shaheen also outlined the district’s overall situation, development prospects and key challenges.

Civil Surgeon Dr Abul Fattah, senior joint convener of the district BNP Fazlul Haque Master, AZM Saleh Faruk, district freedom fighters’ convener, Water Development Board Executive Engineer Hannan Pradhan, Barguna Press Club President Md Hafizur Rahman, Barguna Reporters’ Unity President Tapas Mahmud and former central Jubo Dal leader Advocate Murad Khan also spoke at the meeting.

The discussions focused on Barguna’s overall development, improving public services, expanding healthcare facilities and making administrative activities more effective.

Officials and political representatives attending the meeting pledged to perform their respective responsibilities more effectively to support the district’s overall development.

At the beginning of the programme, Barguna Deputy Commissioner Taslima Akter presented Selima Rahman with a commemorative crest on behalf of the district administration.
