Ukhiya, July 21 (V7N) – The body of a businessman was recovered on Monday, four days after he was kidnapped in Ukhiya. The police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and local residents jointly retrieved the body from a dense forest area in Azukhia, Ghumdhum Union of Naikhongchhari Upazila. The deceased was then taken to Ghumdhum police outpost for post-mortem and later sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.
The victim has been identified as Syed Nur, son of Mohammad Ali from Dargahbil Baganpara in Rajapalong Union, Ukhiya. Syed Nur is survived by three children, including two sons.
Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the case: Mohammad Ismail, son of Oshiur Rahman from Ward 7 of Ghumdhum Union, and Rohingya national Rahmat Ullah. Syed Nur’s wife, Jobaida, filed a case at Ghumdhum police outpost on July 8.
Local sources report that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom from Syed Nur’s family, who paid 50,000 taka via mobile money on July 17. Despite the payment, the kidnappers killed Syed Nur and abandoned his body in the forest.
Local administration and residents found and recovered the body following the report of the incident. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects involved in the crime.
Naikhongchhari police officer-in-charge Mashrurul Haq confirmed the recovery and arrests, stating the body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy. He also confirmed that two suspects have been detained in connection with the murder investigation.
