Habiganj, Aug 25 (V7N) – In a special anti-drug operation led by the Bangladesh Army, two suspected drug traffickers were arrested with 213 bottles of foreign liquor in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district on Sunday morning.

The operation was conducted around 8 a.m. in the Muktijoddha Chattar area of Jagdishpur Union, under the command of the Madhabpur Army Camp. Troops seized a large cache of alcohol consisting of various international brands.

The detainees have been identified as Sharif Uddin, 39, son of the late Mostafa Kamal of R.D. Hall area under Habiganj municipality, and Suman Sarker, 27, son of the late Sunil Sarker of Anwarpur village in Habiganj Sadar upazila.

According to sources at the Madhabpur Army Camp, both men were handed over to Madhabpur Police Station along with the seized liquor.

Madhabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Md. Shahid Ullah confirmed the arrests and stated that legal action is being taken. “A case under the Narcotics Control Act has been filed, and the accused will be sent to court,” he said.

Army-led operations targeting narcotics and contraband have intensified in border and high-risk areas as part of a national crackdown on drug trafficking. Habiganj, located near the Indian border, is often used as a transit point for smuggling foreign liquor and other contraband into the country.

Local law enforcement and military sources have reiterated their commitment to joint operations to curb the spread of narcotics in the region. The swift response in Sunday’s operation underscores the increasing coordination between civilian law enforcement and military forces in addressing drug-related crimes.
