HABIGANJ, Aug 06 (V7N) — Bangladesh's Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has rescued a teenage girl nearly two months after she was allegedly abducted in Habiganj district and arrested the prime suspect in the case, officials said on Wednesday.
According to RAB-9, the girl, a resident of Teliapara in Madhabpur upazila, was allegedly abducted on June 4 while on her way to a private tutoring session.
Investigators said the suspects forcibly took her into a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw near the Shahjahanpur Union Parishad area before fleeing.
Following the incident, the victim's father filed an abduction case with Madhabpur Police Station, prompting RAB-9 to launch a parallel investigation and intelligence-led search operation.
Acting on confidential information, a joint team from RAB-9's CPC-3 Shaistaganj Camp and the Sylhet-based CPSC unit conducted a raid on Tuesday evening in the Murarchar area under Shah Paran Police Station in Sylhet Metropolitan City.
During the operation, officers rescued the missing teenager and arrested the case's principal suspect, identified as Arafat Islam, 20, a resident of Ratanpur in Madhabpur upazila.
RAB said both the rescued girl and the suspect were handed over to the relevant police station for further legal proceedings.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shahidul Islam Sohag, Media Officer of RAB-9, confirmed the rescue and arrest, adding that the investigation into the abduction case remains ongoing.
