Dhaka, Jul 08 (V7N)- Moderate to heavy rainfall is continuing across Bangladesh, including the capital, under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, with some areas experiencing very heavy downpours. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned that the wet weather is likely to persist for several more days before gradually easing after July 12.
Speaking on Wednesday afternoon, Bangladesh Meteorological Department meteorologist Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick said the ongoing rainfall is expected to continue across much of the country due to the active weather system.
According to the BMD, the highest rainfall recorded during the last 24 hours was 314 millimetres in Bandarban, followed by 284 millimetres in Chattogram and 227 millimetres in Rangamati.
The department warned that the exceptionally heavy rainfall could trigger temporary waterlogging in the Chattogram Hill Tracts. Residents living in hilly and vulnerable areas have also been advised to remain alert due to the increased risk of landslides.
Meanwhile, rough conditions continue to prevail over the Bay of Bengal under the influence of the low-pressure system. The Meteorological Department has advised maritime ports to keep Local Warning Signal No. 3 hoisted, while inland river ports have been instructed to display Warning Signal No. 1.
Despite the widespread rainfall, weather officials noted that high moisture levels in the atmosphere are causing uncomfortable and humid conditions across many parts of the country.
Authorities have urged the public, particularly those living in low-lying and landslide-prone areas, to remain cautious and follow official weather advisories until conditions improve.
