New Delhi, Sep 12 (V7N)- Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in India to attend the BRICS summit, marking his first visit to the country in seven years.
Xi arrived in New Delhi on Saturday (September 12) to participate in the summit and is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The meeting is expected to cover a range of issues, including the disputed border situation, trade and efforts to strengthen relations between the two Asian powers.
The visit comes as India and China continue efforts to normalize bilateral relations following a deadly clash along their disputed Himalayan border in 2020.
The confrontation resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese soldiers, significantly straining relations between the two countries.
Against this backdrop, Xi’s visit has been accorded particular significance as New Delhi and Beijing seek to ease tensions and improve bilateral ties.
The BRICS summit is also expected to provide an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss broader regional and international issues alongside bilateral concerns.
