Dhaka, Sep 01 (V7N)- A low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas is affecting the weather in Bangladesh, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a warning for the country's coastal regions.
The Storm Warning Center of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued the warning on Tuesday, advising the country's four seaports to hoist local warning signal No. 3 due to the possibility of squally winds.
According to the warning, the low-pressure area that formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal has moved northwestward and is currently positioned over Gangetic West Bengal, adjoining north Odisha and the northwest Bay of Bengal.
The system is expected to move further west-northwestward. Under its influence, squally winds may affect the seaports, northern Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Bangladesh.
In view of the situation, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been instructed to display local warning signal No. 3.
The Meteorological Department has also advised all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal to proceed cautiously toward the coast and remain vigilant until further notice.
