Kurigram, Dec 02 (V7N) — Winter has begun to tighten its grip on the northern border district of Kurigram, with temperatures dropping steadily and dense fog disrupting daily life. The district recorded its lowest temperature of the season at 12°C at 6 am on Tuesday.

Thick fog has reduced visibility so severely that vehicles are forced to use headlights even during the daytime. Cold winds sweeping in from the north are adding to the chill, particularly from evening to early morning. Although temperatures rise slightly during the day, the sharp fluctuation is increasing cold-related illnesses, especially among children and the elderly.

Subal Chandra Sarkar, officer-in-charge of the Kurigram Rajarhat Meteorological and Agricultural Observatory, said the cold is expected to intensify further. “The temperature will continue to fall day by day along with the fog,” he said, adding that the district’s average temperature currently ranges between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius, with wind speeds of 8 to 12 km/h.

Health workers have urged residents—particularly vulnerable groups—to take precautions as the cold wave strengthens.
