Panchagarh, Nov 11 (V7N) — The intensity of winter is gradually increasing in Panchagarh, the northernmost district of Bangladesh situated at the foothills of the Himalayas. The temperature in Tentulia upazila dropped to 14.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning, marking a noticeable rise in cold conditions across the region.

According to the Tentulia First Class Meteorological Observatory, the temperature was recorded at 14.5°C at 9 a.m., with 97 percent humidity. On Monday morning, the temperature stood at 16.5°C.

Residents reported feeling a distinct chill late at night and early in the morning. Although the days remain sunny, the cold intensifies after sunset. People have begun taking out coats, blankets, sweaters, and warm sheets as the season sets in.

Meanwhile, the demand for winter clothing has surged in local markets across Panchagarh and nearby districts. Traders say sales of old coats, jackets, and blankets have picked up in rural areas.

“Even though it’s sunny during the day, it feels cold at night. The temperature will likely drop further,” said Nur Islam, a resident of Banglabandha Land Port area.

Another local, Moksed Ali of Bhajanpur, urged authorities to distribute warm clothes early, saying, “Every year we face severe cold but don’t get winter clothes in time. Since winter has already arrived, the poor should receive assistance now.”

Jitendranath Roy, Officer-in-Charge of the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory, confirmed, “This is the coldest region in the country. Over the past few days, temperatures have fluctuated between 16°C and 14°C. Today’s reading of 14.5°C indicates that the cold wave is intensifying, and temperatures may drop slightly in the coming days.”
