Dhaka, July 08 (V7N) — Heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread waterlogging and disruption in multiple districts across Bangladesh, particularly in Feni, Noakhali, and Patuakhali, leaving thousands of residents struggling with submerged roads, flooded homes, and interrupted daily life.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, active monsoon winds are causing rainfall in most parts of the country, including Chattogram, Barishal, Dhaka, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions.
Feni Records Highest Rainfall of the Season
Feni city witnessed the highest rainfall of the season, with 347 millimeters recorded on Tuesday (July 8) alone. Continuous downpours have submerged major roads, disrupting traffic and creating severe inconveniences for commuters. Areas such as Daktar Para, Ukil Para, Shanti Company Road, and Nazir Road are underwater, with floodwaters entering houses and shops. Office-goers, school and college students faced significant hardship navigating through knee-deep water in the morning hours.
Severe Flooding in Noakhali
In Noakhali, nearly all roads and lanes of the city have been flooded. Heavy rain coupled with excessive tidal surges has caused water to overflow into houses in numerous areas. The low-lying islands of Nijhum Dwip and Dhalchar are also reportedly flooded, aggravating the suffering of residents and threatening local infrastructure.
Patuakhali Hit by 232 mm Rainfall
In Patuakhali, 232 millimeters of rainfall were recorded in a 24-hour period till noon Tuesday, confirmed Mahbuba Sukhti, in-charge of the local Meteorological Office. Prolonged rainfall has led to waterlogging in various parts of the town, including Jubilee School Road, Sabujbag, Gulbag, Arambagh, and areas surrounding the municipal building. Daily wage laborers and low-income families are particularly affected as flooded streets have brought movement and commerce to a standstill.
Nationwide Alert Issued
The Meteorological Department has advised all seaports to hoist local warning signal number 3 due to the risk of strong winds and rising tides along the coast. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are urging citizens to take precautionary measures as rainfall is likely to continue.
