Dhaka, June 13 (V7N) – A heatwave is currently sweeping across six districts and three divisions of the country, and it is likely to persist, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Meteorologist Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick provided this update in the department’s official weather forecast on Friday (June 13).
According to the forecast, a low-pressure area is extending from the southwest to the northwest, while the monsoon remains less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over the northern Bay of Bengal.
The Met Office said that light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur in parts of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and in one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions by 9 am tomorrow. Some areas may also experience moderate to heavy rainfall, but overall, the day and night temperatures across the country are expected to remain mostly unchanged.
For the next 24 hours from 9 am on Saturday (June 14), temporary gusty winds with lightning or light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely in some places of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions. The day temperature may drop slightly, while the night temperature will likely remain steady.
Looking ahead to Sunday (June 15), the forecast predicts more widespread rain or thunderstorms, with temporary gusty winds in many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and in some places in Rajshahi and Khulna divisions. Moderate to heavy rain may occur in isolated areas, with both day and night temperatures expected to fall slightly.
In the last 24 hours, Rajshahi recorded the highest temperature in the country at 37.7 degrees Celsius, while Bandarban recorded the lowest at 23.8 degrees Celsius.
