Dhaka, Sept 5 (V7N) – The Election Commission (EC) has approved the final delimitation of parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, resulting in key changes to electoral boundaries across the country. The move brings one new seat to Gazipur while reducing Bagerhat’s representation, and adjusts boundaries in 46 constituencies across 16 districts.
According to the official notification signed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, Gazipur will now have six constituencies—up from five—while Bagerhat's seats have been reduced to three. Additionally, six out of Dhaka’s 20 constituencies will see their boundaries altered.
The EC’s earlier draft proposed changes in 39 constituencies. Following the public release of this draft on July 30, the EC received 1,185 objections and 708 recommendations related to 84 constituencies from 33 districts. These submissions were reviewed during four days of hearings between August 24 and 27, after which the EC finalized the boundaries for 46 constituencies.
According to the EC, redistricting was guided by the Delimitation of Constituencies Act and based on the latest census data, aiming to maintain administrative integrity while ensuring fair representation in parliament.
The final list encompasses changes in a broad range of districts, including Panchagarh, Rangpur, Sirajganj, Pabna, Satkhira, Manikganj, Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Faridpur, Shariatpur, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Noakhali, and Chattogram.
A gazette notification formalizing these changes has been published, setting the stage for the parliamentary election to be held under the newly defined electoral map.
