Dhaka, May 10 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a final 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in England and Wales.
The squad was officially revealed at a briefing on Sunday, with Nigar Sultana Joty appointed as captain and Nahida Akter named vice-captain.
Selectors have included a blend of experienced players and emerging talents, with young cricketers such as Tajnehar and Juairia Ferdous earning spots in the final squad based on strong domestic performances.
Chief selector Sajjad Ahmed Shipon said the team is facing a shortage of fast bowling options, noting that Bangladesh will likely go into the tournament with only two pacers. Another selector, Salma Khatun, expressed confidence that the team has the potential to win at least three matches in the tournament.
Before heading to the World Cup, the Bangladesh team—known as the Tigresses—will travel to Edinburgh on May 25 to take part in a tri-nation series involving Scotland and the Netherlands.
Bangladesh’s squad for the tournament includes: Nigar Sultana Joty (captain/wicketkeeper), Nahida Akter (vice-captain), Sharmin Akhter Supta, Sobhana Mostary, Swarna Akhter, Ritu Moni, Rabeya Khan, Fahima Khatun, Fariha Islam Trishna, Marufa Akhter, Sanjida Akhter Meghla, Sultana Khatun, Dilara Akhter (wicketkeeper), Juairia Ferdous, and Tajnehar.
Bangladesh will begin their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands at Edgbaston in Birmingham on June 14. They will later face Australia, Pakistan, India, and South Africa in the group stage.
The team earned qualification for the World Cup after going unbeaten in the qualifying tournament held in Nepal earlier this year.
