Barguna, Aug 27 (V7N) — The location of a fishing trawler that sank in the Bay of Bengal with five fishermen on board has been identified, while the body of one of the missing fishermen has been recovered.
The body of Saiful Mir was recovered on Tuesday afternoon, August 25, by members of a rescue team from the Barguna District Fishermen’s Trawler Owners’ Association. The body was brought to Patharghata on Wednesday morning.
Saiful Mir was a resident of Gaharpur village in Patharghata upazila of Barguna.
According to the Barguna District Fishermen’s Trawler Owners’ Association and district authorities, two rescue trawlers were sent from Patharghata after the fishing trawler sank in the Bay of Bengal.
On Tuesday afternoon, one of the rescue trawlers reached the site of the sunken vessel and spotted Saiful Mir’s body floating beside the trawler. Rescue team members recovered the body and took it aboard their vessel.
However, due to rough weather, the rescuers were unable to search inside the sunken trawler. As a result, it remains unclear whether any other bodies are trapped inside the vessel.
Gholam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the Barguna District Fishermen’s Trawler Owners’ Association, said the location of the sunken trawler had been identified and that one body had already been recovered.
“Local divers have been deployed, and the rescue operation to locate the missing fishermen is continuing,” he said.
The search for the remaining missing fishermen is continuing despite adverse weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal.
