RANGAMATI, Aug 21 (V7N) — Seven cataract surgeries were successfully performed in a single day at Rangamati General Hospital, offering renewed hope of restored vision to disadvantaged patients in the hill district.

Hospital authorities said the surgeries were carried out by a specialist eye surgeon with support from the medical team under the overall supervision of Civil Surgeon and hospital superintendent Dr Nuyen Khisa.

The hospital said financial support from the chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Council also helped facilitate the treatment, including the procurement of necessary medical supplies and reagents.

Despite budgetary and logistical constraints, the hospital is continuing efforts to provide eye care to people from remote and economically disadvantaged areas.

Hospital officials said maintaining regular cataract surgery services remains challenging because of shortages of essential supplies and limited government allocations. They urged philanthropists and well-off members of society to come forward to support the service.

Resident Medical Officer Dr Shawkat Akbar Khan called on people from all walks of life to contribute to humanitarian healthcare initiatives.

Hospital authorities expressed hope that continued support would allow the eye-care programme to expand, enabling more disadvantaged people in the hill region to receive cataract treatment at little or no cost.
